About: In 1985, the Arkansas Crisis Center (formerly known as the Northwest Arkansas Crisis Intervention Center) started as an all-volunteer organization committed to listening to Arkansans in crisis 24 hours a day.
Today, our staff and volunteers continue in the footsteps of our founders to restore hope, empower people and save lives through suicide awareness and crisis intervention services for those experiencing crisis in Arkansas. Our goal is that everyone will have the help they need to prevail over crises and will use the experience to make positive changes in their lives. The ACC plays a crucial role in linking residents in need with available community resources.
Services: The Arkansas Crisis Center offers a variety of services for those who are seeking help and those who desire to help.
Arkansas Crisis Hotline - The Arkansas Crisis Center began operation in 1985 as a 24/7 hotline with a primary mission of suicide prevention. The ACC Hotline now assists with calls concerning suicide, substance abuse, physical and emotional abuse, relationship violence, divorce, loneliness, rape, depression, HIV/AIDS, financial difficulties, runaways and other youth issues, emergency shelter, pregnancy, sexual orientation, etc. We work closely with battered womens shelters, counseling centers, rape crisis centers and many other community service providers to ensure that our callers receive the help needed during times of crises.
Online Crisis Chat - This is Arkansas only online emotional support system for suicide prevention and crises intervention. Being able to go online allows everyone to reach out via their computer, even if they cant find their voice. Trained ACC staff members and volunteers are standing by to answer questions, offer support and provide intervention. The chat is open at arcrisis.org from 4pm to midnight seven days a week.
Crisis Intervention Services - The Arkansas Crisis Center coordinates a registered ICISF team of volunteers who respond within 24 to 48 hours to provide face-to-face crisis intervention services to individuals and groups who have experienced a traumatic event.
Community Outreach - We also provide free educational materials such as pens, pencils, posters, and brochures to churches, schools, and other community groups.
Survivors of Suicide (SOS) Support Group - The Arkansas Crisis Center hosts a peer led Survivors of Suicide (SOS) support group. For so many survivors, a crucial part of their healing process is the support and sense of connection they feel through sharing their grief with other survivors. This group provides a save place where survivors can share their experiences and support each other.
ASIST Training - Applied Suicide Intervention Skills Trainings (ASIST) is an internationally recognized suicide intervention training program developed by Livingworks, Inc. ASIST is designed to help all caregivers become more willing, ready and able to help persons at risk. Suicide can be prevented with the help of prepared caregivers. Just as CPR skills make physical first aid possible, training in suicide intervention develops the skills used in suicide first aid. ASIST is a two-day intensive, interactive practice-dominated course designed to help caregivers recognize risk and learn how to intervene to prevent the immediate risk of suicide. The workshop is for all caregivers (any person in position of trust). This includes professionals, paraprofessionals and lay people. It is suitable for mental health professionals, nurses, physicians, pharmacists, teachers, counselors, youth workers, police and correctional staff, school support staff, clergy, and community volunteers.
