Psalm 29:11 – “The Lord gives his people strength. The Lord blesses them with peace.”

Strength and peace.

If I could pick a couple of traits to have more of, these would be a no-brainer. Strength would be for those days where life is just too much for me to handle. And peace would be very useful for when other people are making life too much to handle!

The Bible says (many times) that God is the giver of ultimate peace and strength for those who follow Him (John 16:33, Philippians 4:6-7, Isaiah 40:29). As you already know, that doesn’t mean that God gives us the easiest life ever and we don’t have any trouble – far from it. What He does give us, however, is the peace and strength to deal with difficulty when we remember who we serve.

That last part is where I frequently fall short. I get so distracted and frustrated when I feel like I don’t have enough strength to handle things on my own – when I forget who I serve. This of course, means I have very little peace as well. Thankfully, Psalm 29 is a beautiful reminder for when I forget about the sheer majesty of God.

My prayer today is that we can find both peace and strength through remembering just how powerful our God is. His voice has command over all the earth, and the same voice that causes mighty trees to bend speaks on our behalf. He will give us strength and peace.
